The Room Upstairs was inspired by childhood memories of sleeping over at a friends house; in the house there was an abandoned attic. What did the creaky stairs lead to? What was in the room upstairs? There was both a sense of dread and of a magical wonder; perhaps the room held all sorts of terrible secrets or perhaps it held wonderful tales of an adventurous life, long-ago lived.
